The Low Institute for Therapeutics is a nonprofit research organization established to reduce human suffering from disease based on the pioneering work of Dr. Philip Low, Presidential Scholar for Drug Discovery and the Ralph

C. Corley Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Purdue University. The Low Institute is focused on advancing clinical studies of innovative medicines designed to precisely treat a wide range of diseases by preferentially targeting diseased tissue, thereby improving efficacy, reducing side effects and improving patient outcomes. The institute is focused on diseases which significantly impact human health, including malaria, many types of cancer, chronic kidney disease, pulmonary fibrosis, heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, organ transplant rejection, fatty liver disease, Alzheimer’s disease, sickle cell anemia, and bone fractures.

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing in vivo and in vitro preclinical studies. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for animal care and housing, animal husbandry, disease model creation, aseptic surgery and dose administration and other tasks to analyze phenotypic response of various therapeutics in vivo. The Laboratory Technician will also be responsible for conducting in vitro assays to support drug screening, characterization, and mechanism-of-action studies, as well as cell culture techniques, data analysis, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the well-being of test animals
  • Change cages and provide food and water to lab animals
  • When required, facilitate reproduction of animals in the colony
  • Record detailed information about each animal’s weight, size, diet, and behavior
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Maintain and sterilize equipment
  • Take inventory of supplies
  • Preclinical animal model creation
  • Participate, as needed, in broader experiments and projects
Position Requirements
  • Associates degree in Veterinary Technology, Animal Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field
  • At least 2 years of laboratory or animal handling experience
  • Analytical skills to conduct experiments and analysis with precision and accuracy
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and other common office software
