Overview
Heating & Cooling Mechanic role with the Operations and Maintenance Dept. responsible for installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration and heating/cooling equipment. This position may require 24-hour call backs for emergencies, after-hours pager rotations, and overtime as needed. Adherence to safety policies and training is required.
Responsibilities- Perform installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration and heating/cooling equipment including but not limited to gas and oil fired boilers, furnaces, stoves, ovens, incinerators, air conditioners, water coolers, refrigerators, freezers, cryostats, ice-makers and other temperature-controlled units.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance and refrigerant record keeping in accordance with EPA standards and Indiana Code.
- Read blueprints, schematics, manufacturer instructions and guidelines.
- Position is subject to 24-hour call back for emergencies, fire, vandalism, and after-hours pager rotation.
- Overtime, scheduled or unscheduled, may be required to accomplish tasks.
- May require working in adverse weather conditions, confined spaces and at heights.
- Must adhere to Purdue University safety policies, procedures and training.

- High school diploma/GED
- Three years of experience with heating and cooling equipment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Mathematical calculation skills
- Computer skills/familiarity with word processors and spreadsheets
- Ability to utilize electronic procurement system
- Ability to lift and carry 50–80 lbs frequently, up to 100 lbs or more occasionally
- Must be able to climb ladders/scaffolds and work from heights up to 100 feet
- Ability to work in varied conditions, including confined spaces, heights, and hot/cold environments
- Outdoor work required about 30% of the time in temperatures below 32°F and above 90°F
- Valid driver's license
- Note:
This is a dual-level posting filled as Associate SK1 or SK2.Skilled manager will determine level based on experience and qualifications.
