Under general supervision and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, the RN uses clinical judgment to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, providing, and evaluating nursing care for patients and for coordinating nursing care activities with other health care disciplines.
Responsibilities- Assessment: standard of performance includes biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, education needs, and discharge planning needs.
- Planning: standard of performance includes developing an individual nursing plan of care that meets the developmental needs of the patient, coordinating patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital and clinic departments and community agencies, developing patient teaching plans, documenting care plans, delegating patient care activities appropriately, and establishing priorities for patient care.
- Implementation: standard of performance includes initiating appropriate measures based on protocol for management of medical and/or surgical patients, basing nursing care on the protocol in place for each patient, correctly carrying out the physician’s plan of care, accurately documenting in the EMR, documenting care according to policy and procedure, and initiating appropriate measures in emergency situations.
- Evaluation: standard of performance includes evaluating assessment methods, plan of care, and patients’ responses to treatment, and participating in unit quality assurance activities.
- Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
- One (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in the ED.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- License, certification, and registration required.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course within 6 months of hire or Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
- Registered Nurse License (Oregon).
- Computer keyboarding skills.
- Previous health care experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field.
- A desire and ability to function within the nursing process preferred.
