Trellis helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities find work, learn the job, and keep it. We are hiring an Employment Specialist I who can do the work on both sides of that path: coach people on the job, build employability skills in the community, and take on selected job-development cases as you grow.

This is a developing, integrated role. You do not need to already be an expert in every service. You do need to be ready to learn all three and use them in the same week.

What you will do

Provide Job Coaching at work sites: teach tasks, routines, pacing, communication, and problem-solving; build natural supports; fade paid support as the person becomes more independent.

Deliver Employment Path Community (EPC) services that actually build work skills — attendance, stamina, task completion, workplace behavior, transportation readiness — not generic community outings.

Carry selected ODDS Job Development cases after training and manager assignment: outreach, applications, interviews, job match, and placement work, with regular consultation.

Manage a mixed caseload. The mix of coaching, EPC, and development will shift with authorizations, placements, geography, and team need.

Keep documentation, billing, and communication accurate and on time. Write what you actually delivered.

Work with employers, Personal Agents/Service Coordinators, VR counselors, families when appropriate, and Trellis teammates while protecting confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Ask for help early when a case is stalled, a risk is rising, or the assignment is beyond current training.

What success looks like

Reliable attendance, scheduling, and follow-through. Clear notes. Purposeful EPC. Coaching that teaches and fades. Job development that moves cases instead of circling them. You use supervision well and get more independent over time.

This role can grow into a stronger ES I placement or into Employment Specialist II when you can independently run full-cycle Job Development and still coach and deliver EPC well. Promotion is based on demonstrated skill, not time in the seat.

Who this is for

You are organized, direct, and comfortable in community businesses, not only at a desk. You can talk with an employer in the morning and teach a job task in the afternoon. You like variety. You can work independently in the field and still use your manager.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Coursework or experience in human services, rehabilitation, education, workforce development, business, psychology, or a related field preferred.

Ability to learn both employment support and employment development.

Strong writing, organization, time management, and follow-through.

Ability to build professional relationships with clients, employers, families, and referral partners.

Ability to learn Trellis documentation, scheduling, and billing systems.

Must meet Trellis requirements for background checks, driving, insurance, and required training/certifications.

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally (regional travel as assigned).
