Job DescriptionReport To: Building Principal/Athletic Director
The secondary Health and Physical Education teacher must possess a strong background in health and physical education content. Provide a variety of physical activities in a safe and orderly environment to improve students’ health and wellness as a lifelong goal.
Duties and Responsibilities- Teach physical education and health skills and concepts to grades 7–8 learners in accordance with the Arkansas Curriculum Frameworks for physical education and health wellness and leisure.
- Utilize curriculum and pacing guides, adopted course of study and other materials in planning lesson plans and teaching outlines.
- Participate in yearly curriculum review and design.
- Implement a variety of instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
- Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely manner.
- Assess students’ accomplishments on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Create a class and school environment that focuses on maintaining physical and emotional health as a lifelong goal.
Job Responsibilities
- Abide by state statutes, code of ethics, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators and supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g., instructional technology).
- Coach players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
- Assess players’ skills, monitor players during competition and practice.
- Supervise athletes during practices and competition.
- Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
- Maintain the equipment room in orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
- Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.
- Submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.
- Participate in special activities such as parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
- Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Coach Jr. High Volleyball.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Must hold or be eligible to receive a valid Arkansas Teaching License with Grade 7–12 Certification in Health Wellness and Leisure;
Coaching endorsement.
