Qualifications
  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience with electrical infrastructure systems, data center operations, electrical systems, data center technology, mechanical infrastructure systems, critical infrastructure and technical troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in data centers, hospitals, power plants, High-Voltage (HV) electrical substations, or other mission‑critical facility maintenance/operational experience.
  • Ability to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and on shift‑based schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of the building management control systems.
  • Knowledge of Protection Relay Network systems.
  • Having many of these specific qualifications but transferable skills/experiences may be equally valuable; adaptability and prompt problem‑solving skills.
About the Job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. The duties include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non‑critical electrical or mechanical components.

You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

As a master of exceptional practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identify problems and make repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time from failures.

As part of the Data Center Plant Engineer, your role involves the design and operation of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems to improve efficiencies. You will be responsible for overseeing SMEs, coordinating with Facilities Technicians, and approving bug fixes and repairs. You will also provide daily assistance to senior technicians in reading blueprints/schematics and assessing work orders.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a data center technical lead, monitoring plant efficiency (e.g., PUE/WUE), and working with technicians, leads, and managers.
  • Provide an approach to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), operations, and maintenance programs.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for Facilities Technicians to drive improvements and feedback.
  • Navigate organizational change processes and provide site-level feedback, ensuring appropriate subject‑matter experts are included, coordinating with field teams and managers to execute approved decisions, and properly closing out technical bugs.
  • Provide input and direction in the data center commissioning processes and procedures, including retesting requirements following replacement or major repairs.
Compensation

US: $122,000 - $174,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits.
