JOB SUMMARY:

U.S. Multimodal is seeking a growth opportunity for a Director of Safety to support key Safety and Operations functions.

As the Director of Safety and Compliance, you will have a major impact in shaping and defining the overall safety program for Trans One.

In this position you will collaborate with local operations personnel to ensure that Trans One is a national leader in safety and that its drivers and equipment operate safely and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure all drivers follow applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations daily.
  • Daily management of telematics, to include: ELD's, hours of service, tablets, and Netradyne cameras. Manage FMCSA and HAZ books, daily driver logbooks, PODs and tablet related equipment and accessories. Provide weekly updates to VP Safety and Compliance weekly or as requested.
  • Enroll new drivers in the Drug and Alcohol Program as part of the onboarding process. Manage random DOT testing requirements as part of the program.
  • Maintain and audit Driver Qualification files and DVIR processes and files as needed to ensure all files are complete and compliant as per company guidelines and DOT regulations.
  • Collaborating with the Transportation Talent Specialist and Operations during driver orientation to ensure all pre-employment requirements have been met.
  • Build a positive safety culture which recognizes and rewards safe behaviors. Documenting daily driver coaching and feedback for violations and compliance issues.
  • Monitor retention and keep the General Manager or Director apprised of any employment verifications received for drivers from other employers.
  • Investigate safety events and administer corrective actions as needed. Maintain documentation for safety related disciplinary actions and warnings including reporting, and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported and investigated and resolved in a timely and fair manner. Accident response takes priority; therefore, the VP of Safety and Compliance and SVP of Admin and Compliance must be notified immediately.
  • Assist with insurance claims and worker's compensation matters following incident reporting.
  • Update CSA reporting monthly and review inspection results and violations as they occur.
  • Support insurance audits and renewals biannually or as requests received.
  • Maintain UIIA and/or rail access to ensure credentials are current while adding or deactivating drivers as needed.
  • Update the TMS (Profit Tools) and monitor driver and equipment expiration dates within the system.
  • IFTA/IRP updated monthly and annually
  • Process insurance enrollment for independent contractors during onboarding and as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Safety and Operations team.
Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience in a safety leadership role within the transportation industry or related field.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to transportation safety, including FMCSA and DOT regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance requirements of trucks, trailers and chassis to insure passing DOT inspections as per state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of telematics including ELD's, cameras and hours of service.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver effective safety training programs.
Preferred Skills &

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics or a related field.

Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Transportation Safety Professional (CTSP)
