Services Engineering is a key function of Services NAM (Americas). The function provides engineering expertise and technical solutions to the various Business Units (BU) of Services. We will be mostly supporting our Aftermarket Customers with engineering support to all products maintained and designed by Alstom that operate in the North American market (automated people movers) as well as several of the infrastructure components (guideways, stations, depots, electrification and power distribution).

We are 230 professionals located in 17 different sites across the continent.

The position is posted for our West Mifflin(US) site, where our focus is to provide excellence in customer support and develop innovative mobility solutions.

As a Parts and Components Electrical Engineer, what are my responsibilities?

As the Parts and Components Electrical Engineer, you will apply your electrical and electronic knowledge to design, verify and validate parts solutions when OEM parts have become obsolete. You will reverse engineer or develop obsolescence solutions, work on system overhaul proposals, and develop technical documentation for suppliers to meet FFF specifications and requirements. You will provide assembly/repair instructions, and new design drawings, develop all the required documentation, create or update engineering change orders, and review vendor technical proposals to ensure compliance with specifications and product safety.

You will play an active role in contributing to the growth of the Parts & Components business by supporting a customer outreach program to proactively generate business opportunities, such as major overhauls of Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreements (TSSSA). Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing Obsolescence Solutions, including Reverse Engineering, Repair, New Design, Supplier Partnerships, Circular Economy initiatives, and Make-to-print processes to meet FFF specifications and requirements.
  • Ensuring that all parts proposals meet customer specifications in terms of form, fit, function, reliability, and adherence to industrial norms and standards.
  • Creating electrical and interface schematics, drawings, and documentation for assigned systems, ensuring deliverable schedules are met.
  • Preparing procurement specifications and technical requirements derived from customer specifications to guide the design of requested parts, with an understanding of the engineering design change process and fundamental design principles, including GD&T.
  • Gaining a thorough understanding of project specifications and requirements related to the Automated People Mover design tasks associated with requested parts
  • Coordinating and leading efforts with vendors to confirm compliance with customer requirements while interfacing with both the end customer and vendors to ensure the validity of the design.
  • Maintaining knowledge of electrical, and electronic norms and standards relevant to automated people movers, such as IEEE and ANSI.
  • Providing drawings, bills of materials, detailed work scopes, assembly instructions, and testing protocols for parts, equipment, and printed circuit boards as needed.
  • Delivering customer technical support as required.
  • Participating in the ALSTOM Change Control Board (CCB) to ensure all changes are effectively managed.
  • Collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams, including Customers, Rolling Stock Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Auditors, and Quality Assurance, as well as Validation and Testing teams.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

Have experience in automated people movers or rail industry standards and design or with similar industry products such as transportation vehicles, and/or high-low voltage equipment, and discrete electronic components.…
