Field Systems Engineer
Location:
Pittsburgh
Compensation: $65,000–$95,000 per year
Wright Technical Services is supporting a leading industrial automation environment within the metals processing industry. This role is critical to maintaining maximum equipment uptime through expert field troubleshooting, system maintenance, and technical support.
Responsibilities- Provide on-site troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial automation equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities and field system modifications.
- Respond to emergency service calls on a rotating on-call schedule.
- Maintain accurate and timely service documentation, customer logs, and internal service records.
- Maintain daily communication with customers to ensure issue resolution, proper follow-up, and high customer satisfaction.
- Support small engineering projects with varying levels of technical complexity.
- Identify and participate in sales opportunities including service contracts, renewals, and system upgrades.
- Operate safely in industrial environments involving electrical, mechanical, and pressurized systems.
- Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience. (Entry‑level candidates with strong technical aptitude will be considered.)
- 5+ years of field service or industrial automation experience preferred.
- 2+ years of leadership, supervision, or project coordination experience preferred.
- Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and configuring PLC platforms including Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, and GE.
- Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and configuring variable frequency drives including Siemens, ABB, and Allen‑Bradley.
- Experience troubleshooting or configuring HMI systems and software packages (preferred).
- Experience in metals processing or other heavy industrial manufacturing environments (strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel 50–70% domestically.
