Job Description

Pump & Valve Engineering designs, analyzes, tests, and delivers advanced technologies for the next generation of reactor plant components. We are seeking a new team member to assist in flow control component and test hardware design, and perform fluid and/or structural evaluations, using a combination of first-principles engineering and finite element analysis. The evaluations performed by the selected candidate will quantify and improve the performance of both new and existing component technologies with the goal of maintaining the US Navy's technical edge.

In this role, the selected candidate will be empowered to enhance their design, analysis, and collaboration skills through challenging work assignments, mentoring, and in-house training programs. The design and analysis results generated in this role will directly impact important ongoing technology development efforts. Job responsibilities may include hydraulic design, modeling and analysis, test sponsorship, documenting the results of performance evaluations, methods development, and integration with various testing communities and other engineering disciplines.

Required

Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.

Preferred Skills
  • Strong problem solving, teaming, and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of engineering mechanics, fluids, heat transfer, or flow control equipment (e.g., pumps, valves).
  • Prior experience in at least one of the following areas: equipment design using CAD tools (e.g. Creo, Solidworks), fluid dynamics modeling (e.g., CFX, Fluent, Open Foam), thermal/structural FEA modeling (e.g., ABAQUS, ANSYS), or design for manufacture (including additive manufacturing).

Pay Range

$63,900.00 - $97,800.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities:
Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth

A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations.
