UPMC Children’s Express Care – West Mifflin

We are hiring a Limited Part‑Time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to support our pediatric urgent care team.

Hours

1 weekday evening (5–9 PM) and 1 weekend shift – Saturday 12–8 PM, Sunday 10–6 PM.

Staff/Senior Level Overview

The Staff or Senior Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and a member of the care delivery team. The APP is responsible for setting the standards for the level and quality of care, manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members.

The APP oversees leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision, establishing relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and families to achieve desired outcomes throughout the continuum of care and demonstrates a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.

Responsibilities
  • Apply basic professional practice knowledge and skills appropriate for the practice setting, communicate effectively, and demonstrate critical thinking in all areas of professional practice.
  • Formulate a plan of care that considers individual patient needs and seek formal and informal opportunities to improve clinical practice.
  • Engage in clinical development of all members of the healthcare team, request opportunities to learn advanced techniques, and utilize performance feedback to improve practice.
  • Identify ethical situations within patient care or within the workplace, seek assistance, and accept assignments that gradually increase patient load and complexity.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of research and evidence‑based practice, participate in journal clubs, and recognize how quality and innovation impact patient satisfaction and safety.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team, show awareness of cultural diversity, and support safety in the workplace.
  • Show accountability for professional development that improves patient care quality, recommend improvements, participate in change initiatives, lead by building healthy relationships, set priorities, and serve as an engaged member of a team supporting patients and families.
Qualifications

Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner with experience working in pediatric urgent care.

The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.
