Kennywood - Security Intern
We are seeking a Security Intern to help maintain a safe environment for guests and employees didates must be at least 18 years old, currently enrolled or a recent graduate in a Bachelor’s program in Criminal Justice or a related discipline, and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Roles & Responsibilities- Oversee the physical safety and security of the organization’s facilities, property, and people—team members, vendors, contractors, shippers, and visitors.
- Participate in assigned projects to improve security processes or efficiency.
- Manage and report on security incidents and threats.
- Support the Security team with a variety of departmental duties as needed.
- Conduct security checks, surveillance, and monitoring; authorize access to facilities and maintain controlled access.
- Assist with scheduling and time‑keeping activities for security team members.
- Maintain and review security records; report on trends, anomalies, and concerns.
- Perform any other duties assigned by leadership.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Currently enrolled in— or recent graduate of—a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Health & Safety, Emergency Management, or a related discipline (required).
- 1+ year of previous security or related experience (highly desired).
- Fluent English;
Spanish or other bilingual skills are a plus.
- At least 18 years old to comply with Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to safely operate motorized vehicles and equipment.
- Strong communication skills; must understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of security methods, procedures, interviewing, listening, and note‑taking techniques.
- Ability to interact fairly, objectively, and courteously with the public, without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, or political beliefs.
- Rapid situational analysis and calm decision‑making in stressful situations.
- Proficiency with electronic equipment such as cameras, radios, computers, or other communications devices.
- Exceptional customer service skills, resolving questions and concerns professionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for the majority of the shift.
- Occasional stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, squatting, or reaching above shoulders.
- Ability to walk, stand, or run on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to remain sedentary for extended periods while using a computer or camera equipment.
- Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more.
- Good visual acuity, night vision, and peripheral vision; ability to see details at distances beyond a few feet.
Work occurs in both office and diverse indoor/outdoor park environments with variable temperatures, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, loud noise, flashing lights, and dense crowds. The role involves frequent interruptions requiring reprioritization of tasks.
