Notes:

The Department of Health, Department of Community Services and Recreation and Fire Marshal have staff available between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM on Fridays.

Summer Hours (May 26, 2026 - September 4, 2026) Notes:

For the summer, the Department of Health, Department of Community Services & Recreation and Police Records Room are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM, and the Fire Marshal also continues to be available on Fridays

Hours:

Full Time. Standard working hours (35 hours a week) at the time of advertisement vary dependent upon the time of year: approximately early September through late May 8:30am-4:30pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30am-6:30pm Wednesday, and 8:30am-1:30pm Friday; approximately late May through early September 8:00am-5:00pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and 8:00am-6:00pm Wednesday. Non-standard working hours are required for various public works projects, maintenance operations and similar, including but not limited to duration of working day / hours for road construction, infrastructure construction / inspection / oversight, and winter (snow and ice) removal operations.

Non-standard working hours to be compensated as appropriate.

A valid New Jersey Driver’s License is required.

The position requires one (1) year of experience in public works construction activities involving the reading and interpretation of plans, specifications, engineering drawings, etc. to include experience in the construction/installation and inspection of various public works improvements along with an understanding of surveying techniques related to public works items.

The applicant shall have the knowledge and abilities to handle complaints tactfully and promptly, apply local ordinances, resolutions, and codes relating to public works cases, have knowledge of practices and procedures used in construction, maintenance, and repairs of streets, sewers, and other public works facilities, have the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, have the ability to learn quickly, understand and carry out oral and written directions and explanations.

The applicant shall have strong communication (oral and written) skills for required communication, able to effectively assess situations and respond appropriately, and have a background in construction and applicable standards and techniques. The applicant shall have strong hand and electronic information reporting skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software and other electronic work order recording system(s) as needed. AutoCAD or similar electronic drafting software skills a plus.

Ability/willingness to learn AutoCAD or similar electronic drafting software required. Ability/willingness to learn New Jersey (State, County, Local, etc.) purchasing laws and procedures required.

The position requires the ability to work well with others as a member in a team environment. Interaction with the public is frequent and a key portion of the job. The position can include working outdoors in all weather conditions and seasons, as needed.

Examples of work include (may vary and not limited to the below items):

  • Technical assistance, oversight and inspection of stormwater infrastructure
  • Inspection of construction projects for municipal infrastructure
  • Inspection of stormwater infrastructure as it relates to regulations
  • Interpretation and inspection of varying contract documents, including but not limited to infrastructure, buildings, and other municipal facilities
  • Coordination and evaluation of public concerns relating to Township infrastructure, public works, or other applicable items
  • Reporting and documenting of all activities
  • Coordination of private contracted winter services with Township staff, including oversight, inspection and review
  • Inspection, evaluation and reporting of property boundary matters as it relates to Township property or items, including but not limited to trees and other items
  • Coordination, reporting, scheduling and inspection of Township-owned tree removal matters
  • Reporting and documentation of questionnaires as it relates to Township infrastructure or property
  • Review and issuance of applicable municipal permits
  • Solicitation of quotes and necessary purchasing information, including recommendations of contracts for processing
