POSITION SUMMARY

Provides leadership for all units and entities within the cardiac/stroke service line to promote excellence in cardiac and stroke patient care. This position will also assist in the planning, development, and implementation of program goals and operations. Coordinates and oversees the CQI process to improve care of the cardiac and stroke patient population. Provides an administrative role to integrate all necessary parties, (EMS, Medical Staff, and Hospital Departments) for the appropriate and expedient diagnosis and treatment of patients, functional facility design, personnel, competency and training, organizational structure, process improvement and community outreach per regulations and accreditation entities.

The Chest Pain Center/Primary Stroke Coordinator will also provide oversight of data abstraction, ensures data accuracy, disseminates data to stakeholders, and utilizes data for evaluation of clinical processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, oversee, and continually assess protocols and pathways designed for the diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting to the hospital and rural hospitals with chest pain symptoms throughout the continuum of care.
  • Works in a collegial manner and collaborates with the Chest Pain/Stroke Medical Director(s) on educational offerings to peers and colleagues regarding Acute Coronary Syndrome and Stroke patient care protocols, management, ensure continuity in care of cardiac patients, and quality outcomes.
  • Directs all aspects of the STEMI and Stroke Alert program. This may include but not limited to, marketing, education (internal and external), development of protocols, working closely with Senior Leadership and Clinical managers and others as required, including acting as a liaison role to rural hospitals.
  • Acts as a resource internally and in the community regarding educating others about Early Heart Attack/Stroke Care, Hands-only CPR, and the Acute Coronary Syndrome clinical care.
  • Works closely with Emergency Medical Services to ensure optimal continuity of care, from pre-hospital to hospital and coordinates educational and process improvement activities.
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, medical staff, and administration to obtain and maintain accreditation as a Chest Pain Center. Assure compliance with other regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Completes annual education on process improvement and data utilization.

  • Actively participate and coordinate CPC/Stroke Committee by insuring timely and accurate communication of all Chest Pain Center/Stroke related information to all committee participants as required. Prepare agendas and recording of minutes of CPC/Stroke Committee.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to present verbal presentations.
  • Must possess knowledge of Chest Pain Center and Primary Stroke accreditation process
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Louisiana.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the community.
  • Excellent presentation skills, good computer skills. Must be self-directed and self-motivated.
  • Ability to operate equipment: A/V equipment, patient care equipment used in training, etc.
  • CPR instructor status within 18 months of hire date.
  • Certification in ACLS, PALS, NRPS preferred.
  • ACLS instructor status required within 18 months of hire date.
  • PALS and/or NRP provider status within 2 years; instructor of PALS and/or NRP within 3 years of employment as directed by CNO.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Registered nurse with 5 years management experience. BSN required, Masters preferred.
  • Must possess 5 years of critical care experience in either the Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit. Experience in nurse-peer training.
