Position Summary

Under the direction of the Hospital/Regional Security Manager, supervises the effective day‑to‑day operations of the Security Department to ensure a safe environment for all hospital employees, patients, visitors, physicians, and equipment. Protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Supports and may lead fire, life safety, and emergency management drills and related educational activities.
  • Manages and supervises daily operations of the Security team members.
  • Provides coaching, counseling, and conducts annual performance appraisals for security personnel. Ensures adherence to security procedures through evaluation and frequent patrol of hospital property.
  • Serves as a backup for Security Officers or dispatch, responding to emergency calls as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, state regulations, and other accreditation requirements.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates security reports, audits, and surveys.
  • Manages life and property protection protocols for all persons on hospital premises. Engages in de‑escalation and contacts local law enforcement as needed in high‑risk situations.
  • Conducts thorough patrols of hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Reports suspicious activity and investigates incidents.
  • Manages the securing and protection of hospital buildings and grounds.
  • Responds effectively to emergency and non‑emergency situations, supporting the hospital staff in de‑escalation when required.
  • Ensures only authorized personnel access hospital property and assists with patient, visitor, or employee inquiries.
  • Maintains accurate records, including daily activity reports/logs, incident reports, and lost and found logs.
  • Serves on the emergency response team and responds to all codes as required.
  • Identifies and reports safety and fire hazards, investigating incidents and reporting findings to supervisor.
  • Documents incident reports accurately and timely, adhering to investigative procedures.
  • Manages access control at hospital entrances, verifying authorization for entry.
  • Oversees the operation of security systems such as CCTV, access control, and incident reporting.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance, including adherence to state and federal regulations.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Maintains a professional rapport with physicians, staff, and vendors, acting as a liaison across departments.
  • In emergency situations (e.g., weather events), remains on‑site as needed to ensure hospital security and operational continuity.
  • Remains vigilant, alerting staff and others to any potential threats or situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge And Skills
  • Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols preferred.
  • Ability to obtain state‑required security officer credentials, as needed.
  • Ability to perform duties independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations.
  • Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations involving death, multiple patients, family members, etc.
  • Ability to be honest, alert, and well‑disciplined.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Two to five (2‑5) years of experience in the field of law enforcement, security operations, or a related field is required.
  • Experience in a health care setting is preferred.
