Position OverviewThe Welder is responsible for performing welding tasks essential to the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas pipelines. This role involves operating welding equipment, striking arcs to fuse metal components, and ensuring the structural integrity of pipelines. Work may be conducted in the field or within a shop environment, adhering to industry safety and quality standards.
Essential Functions- Perform welding operations for the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas pipelines.
- Operate torches, power supplies, and welding equipment to fuse metal components securely.
- Strike arcs by touching electrodes to metal surfaces, completing electrical circuits.
- Assist in pipeline construction, repair, and integrity maintenance.
- Work in various environments, including job sites and fabrication shops.
- Pass pipe welding tests for various gas companies, conforming with ASME certification requirements.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient knowledge of gas installation techniques and industry standards.
- Ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices.
- Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations while remaining calm in a crisis.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- OQ (Operator Qualification) certification in pipeline welding.
- Three (3) years of welding experience preferred.
- Regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, and use hands/fingers.
- Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
- Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Able to climb a minimum of 5 rungs of an extension ladder.
- Ability to travel to project sites that are typically within a 4-hour radius of the home office.
- Able to work in outside environments subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
