Job OverviewThe BHTC Nursing Supervisor functions semi‑independently, under the direction of the Transfer Center administration as part of the integrated healthcare team. The BHTC Nursing Supervisor will manage incoming transfers, assist BH Intake Specialists in securing appropriate placement, review complex medical comorbidities with providers and facility‑specific administration, and document processes clearly to update transfer workflow. The BHTC Nursing Supervisor is also a medical knowledge resource for BH Intake and Transfer Center Specialists, ensuring safe arrival of patients to the right bed at the right time.
Requires ability to establish effective working relationships, plan, follow directions, work independently or cooperatively, and function in a fast‑paced environment with multiple demands.
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing
- New Jersey Professional Registered Nurse License
- At least 2 years in a Behavioral Health patient care setting
- Skills and abilities
typically gained within 2–3 years of experience in a patient‑facing Behavioral Health setting, plus an educational background - Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Ability to accurately type at least 40 wpm
- New Jersey Professional Registered Nurse License
- Shift working, 7PM-8AM

- Serves as point of contact for referrals and obtains necessary information to initiate patient transfer into RWJBH Healthcare hospitals
- Proficient in all Transfer Center workflows and protocols
- Works directly with staff at client facilities to ensure timely access, appropriate bed assignment, and accurate patient information documentation for destination plan of care; receives, documents, and communicates time‑sensitive clinical data from multiple sources
- Demonstrates ability to triage and prioritize patient information
- Assigns case load to staff and serves as liaison between behavioral health staff and providers in cases of complicating comorbidities
- Coordinates transport and pickup times
- Proficient in Transfer Center database platform, EMR, telephony systems, and Office systems; ensures accurate, timely data entry and PHI protection
- Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory components including ethics, compliance, quality initiatives, and HIPAA; monitors self‑compliance and implements process changes to ensure compliance
- Supports system, facility and department goals and objectives, mission, vision, and values through interpersonal skills and job performance; supports transfer center and RWJBH hospital growth strategies
- Demonstrates well‑defined organizational and time‑management skills; identifies, analyzes, organizes, and solves problems and issues promptly and collaborates for timely decisions
- Commits to and complies with company policies and procedures; adheres to safety and infection control policies, procedures, and guidelines
