Adaptive Swim Instructor

The Aquatics Department at JCC Metro West in West Orange, NJ is seeking a part-time Adaptive Swim Instructor. Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, the Adaptive Swim Instructor provides individualized swim instruction to children and teens of all abilities, including swimmers with physical, developmental, and sensory differences.

This position is ideal for college students majoring in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation or related fields and are looking to gain hands-on experience in an inclusive, supportive environment that values inclusion, growth and professional development.

• Teach private and small-group swim lessons following ARC Learn-to-Swim guidelines
• Adapt instruction to meet individual swimmers’ needs
• Support swimmers with varying physical and developmental abilities
• Communicate progress with families
• Maintain a safe, positive learning environment

Weekdays, evenings and weekends as scheduled. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

• Experience working with children with special needs preferred
• Background in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Special Education, Early Childhood or related fields preferred

• Experience teaching Adaptive (Adapt) swim lessons
• At least 1 year of swim instruction experience
• CPR / AED / First Aid Certifications
• ARC Lifeguarding Certification preferred
• At least 18 years of age
• Must be able to work nights and weekends
