The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections (SOE) Office oversees the administration of elections and promotes voter registration and participation throughout the county. The Accounting Specialist is a full‑time, on‑site role based in West Palm Beach, FL, supporting the financial operations of the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office. This role is responsible for processing accounts payable and receivable, preparing and posting journal entries, and assisting with reconciliations of general ledger accounts. The Accounting Specialist helps prepare and maintain financial statements and reports, supports budget tracking, and ensures that expenditures comply with applicable policies and regulations.
Daily tasks include working with accounting software, verifying and coding invoices, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with audits and financial reviews. The role also involves collaborating with internal departments, responding to finance‑related inquiries, and contributing to process improvements within the finance function.
- Strong foundational knowledge in Finance and Financial Statements, with the ability to interpret and prepare basic financial reports.
- Proficiency with Accounting Software and comfort working with spreadsheets and other financial tools.
- Experience preparing and posting Journal Entries (Accounting) and maintaining accurate general ledger records.
- Well‑developed Analytical Skills to reconcile accounts, identify discrepancies, and support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion and in accordance with public sector requirements.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in governmental or public sector accounting, or familiarity with public records requirements, is a plus.
