Description
Provide outstanding customer service to inquiries regarding environmental storm water fees. Primary responsibilities include all phases of the collection process for environmental storm water fees and other miscellaneous billing.
Hours:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 4:30 p.m.
- Excellent customer service/relations skills required.
- Responsible for impeccable follow‑up with internal and external customers.
- Attention to detail, organization and analytical skills are required.
- Responsible for going to court on a weekly basis.
- Strong leadership skills and excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Requires knowledge of mathematics as it applies to bookkeeping and accounting operations.
- Highly organized, attentive to details, analytical, have strong prioritization/time‑management skills.
- Requires computer skills including Windows, mainframe applications, Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Must be friendly, professional and able to work closely with others in a team‑oriented environment.
- Ensures employees are trained to follow correct procedures and maintain a high degree of quality.
- Must be able to prioritize and organize work assignments to meet deadlines.
- Reviews customer accounts for accuracy.
- Prepares and distributes reports.
- Requires considerable knowledge of pertinent departmental operational procedures and policies.
- Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Requires normal hearing and seeing capabilities, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend and stoop in order to maintain files.
Two‑year associate’s degree or equivalent in related field. Minimum of two years experience in customer service. Must possess the ability to perform general math calculations. Must possess strong verbal and writing skills with the ability to write comprehensive policies and procedures, letters and correspondence. PC experience in a Windows environment also required. An exercise in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access may be given.

This is an Alpha position and will be required to work extended shifts during emergencies and storms.

Retirement benefits:
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre‑tax payroll deduction. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self‑development and education. Permanent full‑time and permanent part‑time classified, unclassified permanent, full‑time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
