Description
The Roofing Estimator is responsible for assessing the costs of materials and labor required for roofing projects. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications and internal take‑off sheets, gathering data on materials and labor costs, code compliant systems, preparing bids, and liaising with sales personnel, clients and contractors to ensure accurate estimates. The Roofing Estimator plays a key role in ensuring the project stays within budget and is completed on time.
PrepareDetailed Estimates
- Develop comprehensive estimates based on materials, labor, and other associated costs.
- Analyze job specifications and requirements to provide detailed cost breakdowns for clients.
- Provide accurate pricing for both new roof installations and roof repairs or replacements.
- Evaluate material costs, labor rates, and overhead expenses to ensure estimates are competitive and realistic.
- Stay updated on current roofing industry trends, material pricing, and labor costs to ensure estimates are accurate.
- Communicate directly with clients to gather project details and requirements (for verification purposes only).
- Provide clients with estimates, addressing any questions and clarifying terms or scope of work.
- Ensure that client expectations are understood and factored into the estimate.
- Work closely with project managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure proper planning and execution of roofing projects.
- Coordinate with vendors to secure the best prices on roofing materials and supplies.
- Help resolve issues or discrepancies between the estimate and the final project execution.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports, including detailed cost estimates and other documentation required for project approval.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, contracts, and change orders.
- Ensure estimates comply with local building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Ensure all estimates are within the budgetary scope provided by the client and that the necessary resources are allocated for project success.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in roofing estimation or related construction estimating. - Technical
Skills:
Strong knowledge of roofing materials, systems, and construction practices. - Software Proficiency:
Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Salesforce, Job Nimbus, EDGE, or similar tools) and Microsoft Office Suite, and Business Central. - Communication
Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, vendors, and internal teams. - Attention to Detail:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in estimating costs and quantities. - Problem‑Solving:
Ability to analyze complex project requirements and provide cost‑effective solutions. - Project Management:
Understanding of project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. - Proficient in reading blueprints.
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Work Environment:
Primarily office-based. Occasional travel to client sites or supplier locations may be required.
