Opportunity
Hedrick Brothers Construction is seeking an Estimator to join our Preconstruction team. This position may be filled at either the Estimator I or Estimator II level, depending on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and demonstrated estimating expertise. As an Estimator, you will play a key role in developing conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and competitive bids that help position Hedrick Brothers for success.
Working closely with the Chief Estimator, operations teams, project executives, subcontractors, and clients, you'll support project pursuits from early budgeting through project turnover.
- Prepare estimates throughout all design stages, including Conceptual, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation to determine estimated project costs.
- Perform quantity take-offs across multiple trades.
- Build conceptual budgets utilizing historical cost data and market pricing.
- Develop bid packages including scopes of work, bid forms, schedules, and site logistics information.
- Identify long‑lead materials and potential schedule impacts.
- Solicit bids from subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Develop subcontractor bid lists and ensure adequate trade coverage.
- Coordinate subcontractor communications throughout the bid process.
- Prepare bid leveling worksheets and trade comparisons.
- Assist with the development and management of RFIs and addenda.
- Review plans and specifications for constructability concerns.
- Participate in site visits to validate existing conditions.
- Collaborate with operations teams on budgeting, scheduling, and value engineering efforts.
- Develop estimate qualifications and clarifications.
- Perform value analysis by identifying alternative solutions, construction methods, and materials that reduce costs while maintaining project quality, performance, and design intent.
- Participate in estimate review meetings with clients, architects, and internal stakeholders.
- Support project turnover meetings for awarded projects.
- Assist with proposal preparation and pursuit efforts.
- Maintain positive relationships with trade partners, consultants, and project teams.
- Lead estimating efforts on larger and more complex projects (Project Values of $20 million +).
- Mentor junior estimating staff and share estimating best practices.
- Coordinate multiple concurrent pursuits with minimal supervision.
- Take a more active role in risk identification and preconstruction strategy discussions.
- 1-4 years of estimating, construction operations, project engineering, or related construction experience.
- Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and estimating concepts.
- 5-8 years of commercial construction estimating experience.
- Proven ability to independently prepare detailed estimates and manage multiple bid opportunities.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Bluebeam and On-Screen Takeoff.
- Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience across multiple of our core sectors: hospitality, multi‑family, industrial, healthcare, public sector.
- Experience operating in an EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) framework.
- Experience in MS Project or Primavera scheduling software
- Familiarity with Procore, Building Connected and BIM/IDS platforms.
- Active in trade associations (AGC, ABC, CFMA) or other industry organizations.
- Ability to inspect and navigate active construction sites — uneven walkways, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments.
- Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry up to 30 pounds; regularly up to 10 pounds.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours when required to support business operations and bid deadlines.
