Job description
The Financial Aid Advisor works with prospective and current students and their families to assist them in the application process for financial aid programs. The role involves a variety of duties associated with the awarding, disbursing, and returning of federal, state, and other financial aid assistance programs. The Advisor reports to the Director of Financial Aid and is accountable to the Campus President/Director.
Responsibilities- Assist students and parents to apply for Federal Student Aid and private funding.
- Provide information to students and parents regarding financial aid program requirements, application procedures, rights and responsibilities.
- Review financial aid application information, forms and documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Review resulting ISIR and ensure accuracy of award data in Campus Nexus and Campus Ivy Core systems.
- Complete verification process of information reported on student ISIR to determine eligibility.
- Maintain accurate reporting as needed.
- Provide entrance and exit counseling to prospective and current students.
- Respond or guide on questions, inquiries or requests for information from students or parents.
- Maintain complete and accurate files and paperwork.
- Maintain close working relationships with Admissions, Registrar, and other campus personnel.
- Maintain professional relationships with vendors and partners.
- Remain current on all applicable laws and regulations; ensure compliance.
- Participate in all financial aid training, meetings, and events as assigned.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of Federal Student Aid programs and guidelines.
- Knowledge of Veteran Benefit program preferred.
- Excellent customer service, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic, team player, capable of coordinating multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Proficient with basic office equipment and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, resourceful, and problem-solver.
- Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with students, staff, faculty, and public.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive, confidential issues.
- Computer literacy, working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet.
- No default on any student loans, ability to obtain Federal Student Aid token.
- Flexibility to work a schedule that may include holidays, evenings, and weekends.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of one year of Financial Aid experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Campus Nexus and/or Campus Ivy Core systems preferred.
