School Counselor Responsibilities- Identifies, collects, and uses data to develop and inform the school counseling program’s design and implementation, and to evaluate stakeholder impact.
- Collaborates on the development and management of the school counseling program with the Student Health & Wellness Team, school administration, and Head of School. Serves on the Upper School Leadership Team, contributing to broader planning and decisions within the Upper School.
- Contributes to the ongoing review and development of existing academic course catalog and academic advisement program.
- Communicates and shares the goals and program services of the comprehensive school counseling program with stakeholders including students, faculty & staff, and parents.
- Develops and revises annually a written plan for the effective delivery of the school counseling program.
- Plans, coordinates, and provides classroom guidance lessons reflective of the divisional goals and program evaluation data.
- Assists students in developing or improving academic and personal / social skills that
- promote a positive school experience.
- A master’s degree with a minimum of three years of school counseling; an advanced degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
- LCSW, LMFT, or similar licensure.
- Some clinical experience in a mental health or school setting is preferred.
- Ability to engage and diffuse crisis situations.
- An ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and a capacity to remain calm, focused, and solution-oriented when faced with unexpected challenges.
- Ability to work effectively with adolescents, families, and professionals.
- An ability to actively engage students in their own learning and social and emotional development.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including an acumen for participating in sensitive conversations.
Compensation and benefit packages are competitive but will differ by school and will typically depend on geographic location, your experience, and your level of degree.
