Engineer Mechanical

Job Summary

Perform design of one or more moderately complex or portions of structural components and functional systems of company products. Generally work from preliminary studies developed by higher graded engineers. Analyze requirements for materials, structural component or functional systems. Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs and requirements of other portions of the product.

Release results as design data after review by higher graded engineer. Develop original ideas and elaborate on preliminary design concepts. Evaluate completed design with supervisor and other technical groups and make modification necessary to achieve the most ideal design.

• With limited supervision, apply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of more complex components, structures and sub-assemblies
• Respond in a timely manner to all requests and explore all avenues within authority and make appropriate referrals to other sources
• Make thoughtful and valuable suggestions and recommendations for improving own work and/or group’s work
• Establish requirements for materials, structural components and functional systems
• Release results as design data after review from other engineers
• Document results of design activities

• Requires Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and 2 years of related experience, or Master’s Degree in Engineering
• Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre‑requisite
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
• Working knowledge of computer‑aided design (CAD) software
• Knowledge of ASME geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

• Current active Security Clearance
• Working knowledge of NX
• Knowledge of general machine shop fabrication processes, additive manufacturing experience desirable
• Understanding of design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM)
• Ability and willingness to travel
• Knowledge of additive manufacturing, material/machining of metallic structures/composites
