Position: ENGINEER SENIOR

ENGINEER SENIOR – WPB Administrative Headquarters (B2) – 4631  Job Description

The Hydrology and Hydraulics Bureau of the South Florida Water Management District (District) seeks a Senior Engineer with proven skills and expertise in hydrology and hydraulics.

This position provides technical support to a variety of organizations across the District that require assistance in the assessment of potential impacts of different project activities on the operation of the water management system.

Responsibilities include reviewing or conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for the design, upgrade, or operation of water resource facilities.

The incumbent will conduct engineering project reviews and facilitate operations‑related response to right‑of‑way and other permit applications. Responsibilities also include reviewing, producing and/or maintaining operations‑related technical documents such as the structure book, basin atlases, and water control plans. Work products will be produced in close consultation with the District water managers. Knowledge of the principles of the operation of the water management system and familiarity with the purpose and operation of individual water management facilities are highly desired.

Incumbent must demonstrate the following technical qualities:

  • Demonstrated record of advanced knowledge and substantial expertise in hydrology and hydraulics
  • Expertise in water management and water control operations desirable
  • Fluency in the use of spreadsheets and statistical tools to solve hydrologic and hydraulic problems
  • Proficiency in communication and documentation of hydrologic and hydraulic products, techniques, and processes in support of district projects, to both technical and non‑technical audiences

This position may be filled as a Senior Scientist, Staff Engineer, Engineering Specialist 4, Engineering Specialist 3, Engineering Specialist 2 or Engineering Specialist 1.

Employment Guidelines

Senior Engineer: Typically has a Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 6+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline. Licenses:
State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required and must be kept current. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Senior Scientist: Typically has Bachelor's Degree in Natural or Physical Sciences and 6+ years' experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within scientific discipline. Licensed positions require a PE if applicable.

Staff Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program in Agricultural, Civil, Environmental, or related engineering field and at least four years of qualifying experience that demonstrates measurable career progression in water resource engineering. Licenses:
State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required and must be kept current. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Engineering Specialist 4: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 4+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida PE license via EIT designation and accumulating experience for licensure. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Engineering Specialist 3: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 2+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida PE license via EIT designation and accumulating experience for licensure. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Engineering Specialist 2: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 1+ year experience in engineering specialty. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida PE license via EIT designation and accumulating experience for licensure. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
