Controls Engineer

Tera Wulf is building large-scale AI/HPC data centers, and the Controls Engineer will serve as the owner-side technical resource for controls architecture, monitoring systems, operational visibility, and controls integration across multiple projects.

This Controls Engineer will support the Owner's Engineering and Solutions Engineering tracks, with additional support for Program Delivery. The Controls Engineer will help govern BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLC, metering, OT network, dashboarding, and system-integration requirements to ensure that data center systems are observable, controllable, secure, commissionable, and operable.

This role is well suited to a controls engineer or industrial automation professional with experience in mission-critical facilities, data centers, central plants, power monitoring, industrial controls, or complex MEP systems.

Core Functions

  • Serve as the owner-side controls engineering resource for BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLCs, metering, controls networks, dashboards, and related OT systems.
  • Support development of controls standards, integration requirements, points lists, alarm standards, trending requirements, dashboard requirements, and sequence-of-operation expectations.
  • Review controls architecture for reliability, cybersecurity, network segmentation, maintainability, commissioning readiness, and operational usability.
  • Coordinate controls requirements across mechanical, electrical, EPMS, BMS, fire alarm, security, IT/OT, commissioning, and tenant systems.
  • Review controls drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, control diagrams, network architecture, points lists, graphics packages, alarm matrices, and integration narratives.
  • Support vendor and integrator evaluation, including BMS/EPMS platforms, PLC-based systems, SCADA tools, metering platforms, data historians, and dashboarding solutions.
  • Participate in FATs, factory testing, software demonstrations, controls bench testing, commissioning, IST, and construction-to-operations turnover.
  • Support tenant-facing Solutions Engineering by translating tenant controls, monitoring, telemetry, data-feed, API, alarm, and reporting requirements into actionable design criteria.
  • Help define controls scope demarcations between Landlord base build, tenant fit-out, tenant equipment, vendor packages, and operational integrations.
  • Support lease exhibits, technical narratives, responsibility matrices, and SLA-related monitoring requirements where controls data is needed to validate performance.
  • Support Program Delivery through milestone drawing reviews, RFI and submittal review, change assessment, issue tracking, field coordination, and turnover documentation.
  • Identify gaps in monitoring, alarming, cont rollability, data quality, system integration, commissioning scripts, and operational readiness; drive issues to resolution.

Core Competencies

  • Strong understanding of industrial controls, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLCs, metering, OT networks, and data center monitoring systems.
  • Applied knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical systems, including chilled water plants, pumps, CRAHs/fan walls, CDUs, UPS systems, switch gear, generators, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with common protocols and integrations, including BACnet, Modbus, OPC, APIs, data historians, and dashboarding platforms.
  • Ability to review sequences of operation, points lists, network diagrams, alarm matrices, graphics, metering plans, and commissioning scripts.
  • Strong owner-side judgment, with the ability to balance technical capability, cost, schedule, cybersecurity, operability, maintainability, and tenant commitments.
  • Clear written and verbal communicator who can translate between engineers, controls vendors, IT/OT teams, operators, contractors, commissioning agents, and tenants.
  • Detail- and process-oriented, with the discipline to support design QA/QC, issue tracking, documentation control, and turnover readiness.
  • Comfortable working across multiple concurrent projects in a fast-moving environment with evolving design, construction, and tenant requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer…
