Project Engineer – Solid Waste

Advance Your Engineering Career While Making a Measurable Environmental Impact

SCS Engineers is seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Solid Waste to join its established South Florida solid waste practice. This position may be based from the firm's Coconut Creek or West Palm Beach office under a hybrid work arrangement.

This is an excellent opportunity for a civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineer who wants to expand their technical capabilities, manage projects, gain client-facing experience, and contribute to infrastructure that protects communities and the environment.

The selected engineer will support municipal and private-sector clients across projects involving landfills, landfill gas systems, composting facilities, stormwater management, industrial wastewater, air quality, environmental compliance, permitting, design, construction, operations, and environmental monitoring.

The role combines office-based engineering, field assignments, project coordination, technical reporting, quality control, and client interaction. It is ideally suited for an engineer who wants hands-on responsibility and a clear path toward increased project-management and technical leadership responsibilities.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Join a nationally recognized environmental engineering firm with more than 50 years of industry experience.
  • Become an employee-owner through SCS Engineers' 100% employer-funded Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
  • Work on diverse solid waste and environmental infrastructure projects throughout South Florida.
  • Gain experience across the full project lifecycle—from field investigation and permitting through design, construction, monitoring, and operations.
  • Help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the environmental performance of solid waste facilities.
  • Receive advanced technical training and mentorship from experienced solid waste professionals.
  • Develop project-management, client-development, and team-leadership capabilities.
  • Work within a collaborative culture built around trust, care, teamwork, growth, and shared success.
  • Receive a competitive base salary, annual bonus opportunity, retirement benefits, and long-term employee-ownership potential.

Position Overview

As a Project Engineer, you will apply your engineering and design expertise to technically challenging solid waste and environmental assignments. You will prepare and review technical documents, perform engineering calculations, coordinate design activities, support permitting, conduct field investigations, and help manage projects and project personnel.

You will work closely with engineers, scientists, project managers, CAD professionals, contractors, regulators, and clients to develop practical solutions for solid waste facilities and supporting environmental infrastructure.

As your experience grows, you will have opportunities to take on additional responsibility for project budgets, schedules, client relationships, staff coordination, proposal development, and technical leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, design, permitting, construction, and operation of solid waste facilities and related infrastructure.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, design drawings, technical specifications, construction plans, reports, and permit applications.
  • Work on projects involving:
