I partnering with a client to hire an experienced Cost Accountant to support complex, project-based operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in forecasting, cost control, and schedule-driven financial analysis within a construction or infrastructure environment.
The Cost Accountant will perform advanced cost analysis, compare estimated vs. actual costs, and prepare detailed budget and forecasting reports. This individual will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, supporting project teams, and strengthening cost control processes across active projects.
Key Responsibilities- Perform advanced cost accounting analysis and forecasting
- Compare estimated costs to actual performance and identify variances
- Read and interpret bid documents and project schedules to forecast future costs
- Independently develop accurate forecasts using limited project data
- Validate forecasted costs against committed costs, historical unit rates, and expected production
- Track job costs with a high degree of precision and minimal supervision
- Understand and apply accrual-based accounting principles
- Analyze committed costs in relation to purchase orders, subcontract agreements, budgets, and schedules
- Create and analyze project schedules using Microsoft Project or Primavera P6
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Lead problem-solving efforts related to cost control and forecasting
- Provide guidance and support to junior team members
- Support safety and quality initiatives within the organization
- 3–6 years of experience in Cost Accounting (construction or project-based environment preferred)
- Degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (formulas, pivot tables, advanced functions)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6
- Advanced proficiency with Viewpoint Vista
- Strong understanding of QC processes and their relationship to cost control documentation
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues within cost control systems
