Overview
Responsible for the protection of life and property and enforcement of laws and ordinances. The position requires considerable knowledge of modern principles and practices of police work including: knowledge of first‑aid methods, ability to act reasonably without direct supervision, ability to observe situations analytically and objectively, ability to report and record situations clearly and completely, ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and a demographically diverse public.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must meet all Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) requirements.
- Must meet all Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) requirements specified in the online assessment.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Florida Driver's License prior to employment.
- Must present proof of automobile insurance and be free from “at fault” accidents or convictions for violation(s) of traffic law to include adjudication withheld for the past twelve (12) months. A good driving record will include no Driver’s License suspensions in the past one (1) year.
- Able to perform the essential functions of the job for which applying with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Internal Candidates – Achieved satisfactory evaluations and favorably completed at least one year of employment unless position is designated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office as a critical need position at the time of application.
- PBSO Field Training Program (FTO)
- New Appointment Training: A 16 Week Training course, involving (4) 10‑hour work days. Training includes a combination of High Liability and Classroom curriculum. The training also includes some afternoon and night shift portions.
- Field Training for 13 weeks. This training schedule is flexible and will consist of day and night shifts.

- WORK SCHEDULE: Shift work, which may include varying hours, evening, nights, holidays and weekends.
SALARY: Starting Salary: $75,840 (Pay Grade 290, Step
1)
* Candidates' with (3) or more years of Certified Law Enforcement experience - Starting Salary: $81,600 (Pay Grade 290, Step
3)

NOTE: Sworn members who are presently assigned to a specialty unit as defined in any Collective Bargaining Agreement are eligible to apply for other opportunities within the agency upon the successful completion of one (1) year of service at their present assignment.
