Palm Beach County Building Division is seeking an inspector for highly specialized administrative and technical work related to the abatement of unsafe buildings, resolution of code enforcement citations, and specialized consumer issues. Responsible for inspecting unsafe structures, including initiating action to condemn and abate unsafe structures through preparing, mailing, and recording appropriate notices. Work is performed under the supervision of the Building Director and is reviewed through oral and written reports.

This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction, engineering, architecture, or related work which involved examining construction plans or inspecting construction for code compliance.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTQualified applicants MUST possess one of the following at time of application:
Florida Certification as a Residential Plans Examiner
OR
Florida Certification as a Residential Inspector
OR Possession of valid national certifications from the International Code Council (ICC) and/or another state AND ability to obtain a Provisional Florida One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector within 120 days AND obtain Standard Florida Certification(s) within one (1) year of hire OR
Meets the postsecondary education requirement as required by the State of Florida with the ability to obtain Florida Provisional Certification(s) within 120 days AND obtain Standard Florida Licensure within 11 months of hire.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience providing public service,
- An Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited school of construction,
- Certified Building Official (CBO) Certification, and
- Four (4) years of experience as a Building Inspector.
