Maintenance Technician – Plastics Manufacturing
Department: Manufacturing / Operations
Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Production Manager
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing manufacturing equipment used in the production of liquid leak detection systems, including plastics extrusion and injection molding processes. This role ensures production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime while supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
The technician supports production of specialized sensing cables and components used in liquid leak detection applications and plays a key role in maintaining equipment reliability and product quality.
Key Responsibilities Equipment MaintenancePerform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on plastics extrusion lines, injection molding machines, and auxiliary equipment
.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on production equipment.
Maintain extrusion equipment used for manufacturing sensor cables and plastic components
.
Diagnose and repair issues involving motors, gearboxes, heaters, thermocouples, sensors, and control systems.
Plastics Processing SupportMaintain and service extrusion dies, screws, barrels, feeders, and cooling systems
.
Support maintenance of injection molding presses, molds, temperature controllers, and material handling systems
.
Ensure proper setup and calibration of equipment to maintain dimensional accuracy and product quality.
Electrical & ControlsTroubleshoot PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment
, sensors, and automated production systems.
Maintain electrical components including control panels, wiring, relays, VFDs, and instrumentation
.
Assist in installing new production equipment and automation systems.
Production SupportRespond quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and process efficiency.
Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate service records.
Identify opportunities to improve machine performance, reliability, and maintenance procedures.
Assist with equipment upgrades, retrofits, and process improvements.
Support safety and quality initiatives across the manufacturing floor.
Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or technical training in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field
.
3+ years of maintenance experience in plastics manufacturing
, preferably with extrusion or injection molding equipment
.
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
Experience with:
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Industrial electrical systems
Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals
.
Experience maintaining sensor cable extrusion lines or wire/cable manufacturing equipment
.
Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
Knowledge of process heating systems, temperature controls, and thermoplastic materials
.
Experience in continuous manufacturing environments
.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around industrial machinery for extended periods.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with moving equipment and production lines.
