Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) Opportunity – Day Shift
This is a full‑time, 40‑hour a week opportunity with a convenient day shift schedule. There is an opportunity for overtime and to cover various shifts if interested.
ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a specialized registered nurse whose practice is an extension of perioperative nursing. The RNFA assists the surgical team in the operating room and other similar settings, providing intraoperative assistance beyond the scope of practice for RNs without RNFA education and training. The RNFA provides comprehensive preoperative patient care management, intraoperative surgical first assisting, and postoperative patient care management.
Intraoperatively, the RNFA functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. The RNFA will provide patient care for all ages and, where appropriate, provide leadership and direction to the perioperative team during the perioperative phase. The RNFA does not concurrently function as the scrub nurse.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing and completion of an accredited RN First Assistant program that includes didactic and supervised clinical practice, as based on AORN’s core curriculum for the RNFA.
- 3‑5 years experience in perioperative nursing is required.
- Must be a registered nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Florida, possess OR certification [CNOR] from the Association of peri Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) certification [C‑RNFA] or be eligible to complete supervised hours necessary to sit for the RNFA certification exam by AORN within 90 days of employment.
- Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
