Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), GS-7 performs more complex nursing assignments within their setting. The LPN/LVN possesses comprehensive practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures and practices. The LPN/LVN GS-7 work is of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision. Individuals in these positions are to a considerable extent, expected to exercise independent technical judgments and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art, and science of practical nursing.

Employees at this grade level demonstrate broader knowledge skill with respect to these responsibilities than employees at lower grades.

The Surgical Clinics LPN is responsible to perform direct and indirect care for patients with known or suspected Urology, Podiatry, Wound Care, General, Vascular, ENT, Orthopedic, Thoracic, Plastic, and Hand (all surgical clinic) problems or who are undergoing therapeutic and investigative procedures. Specific responsibilities include:
Set up and break down equipment/instrumentation and supplies for procedures specific to their unit, etc., provide a safe and safe patient care environment, technical support anticipates needs and communicates effectively with all team members, properly positions patients prior, during and after procedures, collection, labelling and recording of specimens, accountable for RME/scope troubleshooting, shares responsibility with for scopes; processing, maintenance, transport to and from Processing and decontamination department, equipment maintenance records, peripheral vein for IV insertion, phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, vital signs, Point of care glucose testing, and timely safe patient transport.

Additionally, the LPN assists in administrative functions of the unit which include; receiving phone calls and visitors, patient and procedure scheduling, admit patients' pre-procedure, pre and post-patient procedure education, completing encounters, maintain infection control surveillance and collecting performance data.
