The Director of Nursing (DON), reporting to the Director of Medical Services, provides strategic and operational leadership for all nursing services across the organization's substance use treatment facilities. This role is responsible for directing the overall and day-to-day operations of the nursing department to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care that aligns with clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards.

  • Provides leadership and oversight to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all patients through the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered nursing care.
  • Directs the daily operations of the nursing department across assigned facilities, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, applicable federal and state regulations, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Medical Services, physicians, therapists, clinical leadership, and interdisciplinary treatment teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care and promote positive clinical outcomes.
  • Participates in daily treatment team meetings, case consultations, and interdisciplinary discussions to ensure continuity of care and effective communication among all departments.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates nursing personnel, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous development.
  • Develops and manages nursing staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts while maintaining operational efficiency and quality patient care.
  • Delegates nursing assignments appropriately and oversees the implementation of daily patient care activities.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates nursing quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives to promote excellence in patient care and regulatory compliance.
  • Develops, interprets, implements, and reviews nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols to ensure evidence-based practice and operational consistency.
  • Provides orientation, ongoing education, competency assessments, and professional development opportunities for nursing staff and other departments as appropriate.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors departmental budgets, including staffing, supplies, and equipment, while identifying opportunities for cost-effective resource utilization.
  • Monitors the quality, safety, legality, and ethical delivery of nursing care through regular audits, observations, and performance evaluations.
  • Promotes a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff by ensuring compliance with infection prevention, safety standards, emergency preparedness, and risk management practices.
  • Participates in organizational risk management and performance improvement activities by reviewing, investigating, and resolving incident reports, patient grievances, compliance concerns, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Exercises independent judgment in making operational decisions affecting nursing services and departmental performance.
  • Ensures patients receive appropriate education regarding medical conditions, medications, treatment plans, discharge planning, and health maintenance.
