Cashier, Retail

Purpose

Scan items, ensure that prices and quantities are correct, and collect payments. Assist customers by explaining or recommending items, answering questions, and maintaining a clean workspace.

• Basic Responsibilities
  • Welcoming customers, answering their questions, helping them locate items, and providing advice or recommendations.
  • Operating scanners, scales, cash registers, and other electronics.
  • Bagging or wrapping purchases to ensure safe transport, keeping in mind managing resources.
  • Follow all store procedures regarding the purchase of specific items such as alcohol or cigarettes.
  • Maintaining a clean workspace.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by Manager.
• Customer Service
  • Know the purpose of popular over‑the‑counter medicines and direct customers accordingly.
  • Recognize all major cigarettes and tobacco products.
  • Learn check cashing procedures.
  • Properly sell and validate lotto/scratch‑off tickets.
  • Use services such as Sin Pin, Boss Revolution (National & International top‑ups) and register them properly.
  • Answer the phone using the correct answering phrase, taking orders, resolving customer questions, and delegating calls when necessary.
  • Use money transfer platforms following protocol, including  and signature collection; cancel or correct as needed.
  • Generate and assist customers with money orders when time permits.
  • Make utility payments on all platforms.
• Food Service
  • Recognize and serve correct portions of food.
  • Operate scales.
  • Ensure food is presentable with cutlery and napkins.
  • Prepare and dispense American coffee from dispensers.
  • Recognize major ingredients in prepared meals.
  • Make Café con Leche and other Cuban coffee products.
• Maintenance
  • Clean and sanitize all large equipment.
  • Sweep and mop the store.
  • Dust and maintain aisles and merchandise.
  • Clean bathrooms.
  • Clean storefront and back area.
  • Refill bags, cutlery, and other low‑stock materials.
• Leadership
  • Take initiative within the store to improve presentation and customer service.
  • Support others with learned activities and become proficient.
  • Organize the team if they appear disoriented on tasks.

• Cheerful demeanor and ability to provide excellent customer service.
• Must be bilingual, able to read, write, understand and communicate in English and Spanish.
• Experience in retail & customer service.
• Communications skills – good listener, clear instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
• Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  
  Customer service or cashier experience.
• Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Ability to stand, walk, lift heavy items, and work with other team members in a fast‑paced environment.
• Attention to detail.
• Helpful, courteous approach to resolving complaints.

Shift: Various shifts. Full‑time or part‑time options available.
