The Family Service Counselor is responsible for serving client families by arranging cemetery services when needed and promoting pre‑planned arrangements. The counselor provides exemplary, personalized service, generates revenue for the cemetery, and acts as the primary contact for families.
Job Responsibilities- Lead generation: prospect for minimum 1–2 hours each day.
- Obtain referrals from families served by the location.
- Network and build community and civic relationships.
- Explain and present services to families and referred families.
- Maintain and track activity levels to ensure productivity.
- Build relationships with families.
- Respond to client inquiries in a timely, respectful, sensitive, and professional manner.
- Connect with families through listening, honest communication, and genuine concern.
- Develop an understanding of each family’s unique needs and offer solutions that provide value.
- Stay in touch with families to ensure satisfaction.
- Prepare for all appointments and perform all procedures with professionalism and attention to detail.
- Follow through on all customer problems and requests.
- Build trust‑based relationships to earn the right to ask for referrals.
- Earn referrals to protect families by educating them on the benefits of pre‑planning.
- Represent a continuous link from services at need, through aftercare, to future protection services.
- Collaborate with funeral directors, location managers, and other cemetery staff to provide seamless, high‑quality service.
- Review previous services and contacts to support current needs and sales.
- Share family concerns with the SCI team.
- Education:
high school diploma or equivalent; 1–2 years of college or equivalent education and experience. - Experience:
1–2 years in customer service or sales preferred.
- Current state/province issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Insurance license if required by state/province law.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an insurance license if required by state/province.
- Pass the company’s internal presentation certification within thirty days of hire.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Frequent driving.
- Flexible hours, and may work up to 12 hours a day at times.
- Treat others with empathy and respect.
- Knowledge of computers and related software.
- Customer service skills.
$50,000 to $100,000 targeted compensation, with higher earnings potential based on exceptional performance.
