SUMMARY

In support of the university’s mission and objectives, the Patrol Officer ensures the safety and security of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administration, and physical assets during assigned shifts. This role focuses on creating a secure environment by deterring crime and unsafe behaviors through proactive patrol techniques and crime prevention strategies. Additionally, the officer is responsible for identifying violations of local, state, and federal laws, enforcing university policies and procedures, and responding to, investigating, and documenting crimes, disturbances, and other public safety incidents at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Public

Safety and Public Engagement
  • Employ a variety of proactive patrol techniques and strategies in a vehicle, by bicycle, or on-foot to foster increased safety and security of all PBA-affiliated persons and property.
  • Engage in community-oriented problem solving, community-oriented policing, and other crime prevention measures.
  • Perform community service functions, including conducting safety escorts, completing inspections and reports regarding safety hazards, and providing physical access control assistance.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned and appropriate.
Emergency Response and First Aid
  • Respond to assigned service calls, including emergencies, non-emergencies, and critical incidents.
  • Initiate service calls based on direct observation or citizen requests.
  • Serve as a first responder by assessing situations, determining appropriate actions, administering first aid or life support, coordinating with law enforcement/EMS, and prioritizing incidents to ensure safety through decisive action.
Investigation and Reporting
  • Conduct and/or assist in various types of investigations.
  • Conduct interviews, collect property, and secure crime scenes.
  • Document findings and prepare written detailed case reports and logs, as required.
Equipment
  • Operate miscellaneous equipment including computers, information technology equipment, communications equipment, AEDs, first aid/life safety equipment, cameras, video surveillance equipment, vehicles, vehicle jump starters, and intermediate weapons as required.
Parking
  • Assist in parking enforcement, vehicle and pedestrian traffic direction, special events security, surveillance activities, and other unique assignments.
Qualifications Education

High school diploma required. Associate degree or college credit hours in a public safety related field preferred. Valid Florida Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout employment, preferred. Current CPR with AED certification preferred. First Aid Training Certification preferred.

Experience

1+ years of prior experience in campus public safety, law enforcement, or related public safety discipline, preferred.
