Under general supervision, leads work crews to performs asphalt, paver brick, and/or concrete repair tasks related to the maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, and all areas within the rights-of-way; plans work and operates heavy and light equipment in support of assigned work; performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Which are not in any hierarchical order)
1. In the absence of the supervisor, leads work crews to performs asphalt, paver brick, and/or concrete repair tasks related to the maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and all areas within the rights-of-way, as assigned.
2. Performs advanced-level asphalt pavement patching, paver brick and bollard installations/repairs, and/or concrete sidewalk and curbing repairs, and performs other related duties as assigned.
3. Operates dump trucks and other like vehicles to support a variety of City construction and maintenance projects to include hauling of equipment on trailers.
4. Operates heavy and light equipment (e.g., front-end loader, bulldozer, backhoe, tandem trailer-dump truck, etc.)
5. Prepares and loads equipment and materials necessary to complete projects; drives truck to deliver equipment to job site; and unloads equipment/materials at job site.
6. Purchases supplies, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects.
7. Depending on assignment, reads specifications and blueprints; excavates job site and prepares for pouring of concrete; creates and places forms to meet specifications; inserts steel rods and wire as necessary to ensure structural integrity; mixes, pours, and finishes concrete.
8. Performs or schedules preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
9. Performs various construction and/or maintenance tasks (e.g. hauling trash and debris, repairing asphalt, building catch basin, repairing sidewalks)
10. Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition.
11. Follow safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
12. Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service or assistance.
13. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, vendors, contractors, the public and others as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information and resolve problems.
14. Must be able and willing to perform all duties of positions lower than the one being held.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Salary
$25.58 Hourly - pay grade 53

Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or vocational training(education will be verified using the Education Requirements listed below) and four (4) years of advanced construction or maintenance related experience in asphalt, paver brick repair, and/or concrete works, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Three (3) years of heavy and light equipment operating experience is required. Florida Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification is required or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of employment.
A valid Florida Commercial Drivers license Class B is required. For application purposes, a valid drivers license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class
B) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida drivers license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.
Education Requirements: To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by:
a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation…
