Job Title

Employees in this class perform routine heavy manual labor that requires little or no special training or experience. Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The following duties are normal for this position.

• Complete the daily workload in a timely manner, in compliance with Village policy
• Following direction from the supervisor who will frequently inspect the work during progress as well as upon completion.
• Clean gutters, culverts, sewers and other drainage structures.
• Load and unload stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, timber and heavy mechanical equipment; sweep streets, gutters and sidewalks.
• Perform a variety of other heavy manual work in connection with the maintenance and construction of sidewalks, streets, sewers, landscapes, parks, etc.
• Assist in digging and bracing sewer and water lines, ditches, make water and sewer traps.
• Raise and lower manholes, perform rough masonry work, build forms for sidewalks, finish cement, operate a tractor, mower and other equipment.
• Employees may be assigned to related work as required.

Must possess a High School diploma or GED; a valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record; and sufficient ability to communicate effectively (both in oral and written form) with superiors and subordinates.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Employees must have good physical stamina that exhibits itself in the ability to perform manual labor for an extended period of time under varying climatic conditions.
• Must possess a basic knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks as well as the desire and ability to acquire additional skills.

Employees use arms, hands and feet. They are frequently required to climb ladders, shovel dirt/sand/rock, walk, stand, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, and squat. Employees may occasionally be required to lift, push and/or pull heavy articles (not to exceed 45 pounds without assistance). Hearing and visual acuity, with or without, correction are required. Employees must be able to climb a ladder, lift heavy articles (not to exceed 45lbs without assistance), stand/walk for extended periods of time and bend frequently as part of the daily duties and activities.

Environmental Conditions: Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying and changing weather conditions, and employee may occasionally be subjected to elevated noise levels from operating machinery. Work is occasionally performed in confined spaces or around hazardous waste and malodorous conditions.
