Material Handler
This role involves performing general labor in a fast-paced warehouse environment that supports aviation operations. You will handle high-value aircraft parts, manage inventory, and process inbound and outbound shipments with a strong focus on accuracy and traceability. The position requires frequent movement between computer-based tasks at a dual-screen workstation and hands-on work in the warehouse, including picking, packing, and shipping aviation components.
Responsibilities- Perform general warehouse labor in a fast-paced environment supporting aviation logistics operations.
- Pull and pick parts accurately using aviation and airport part numbers, ensuring precise identification of components.
- Wrap and protect high-value products using appropriate techniques and adhesives, going beyond basic bubble wrap to safeguard parts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
- Conduct cycle counts regularly and maintain accurate inventory records to ensure stock integrity.
- Process incoming and outgoing shipments accurately, verifying that part numbers and item numbers match all documentation before shipment.
- Stage items for shipment, including organizing, packing, and preparing orders for dispatch.
- Print and apply shipping labels using carrier software such as Fed Ex and UPS programs.
- Use a dual-screen computer workstation to manage emails, shipping systems, portals, and ERP software while coordinating warehouse activities.
- Support night shift operations by returning parts to stock and processing returns through the appropriate online portal.
- Handle shipping and receiving tasks, including unloading, checking, and documenting incoming materials.
- Work with traceability documents, such as 8130 forms, to maintain proper documentation of aircraft parts when applicable.
- Operate a forklift if qualified, especially for the more advanced material handler level.
- Follow all safety, hazmat, and warehouse procedures when handling, storing, and shipping materials.
- Collaborate with a large warehouse team to support 24/7 aviation operations and Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations.
- Adapt to shift schedules that may include weekends, with two days off during the week, and participate in daytime training before transitioning to assigned shift.
- Warehouse experience in logistics, preferably in the aviation industry.
- 1–2 years of recent logistics experience within an aviation company strongly preferred.
- Experience working with aviation or automotive parts, including pulling and picking parts.
- Familiarity with aviation, aircraft, or auto parts environments and terminology.
- Proficiency in shipping and receiving processes, including preparing, checking, and documenting shipments.
- Computer skills, including using email in Outlook and working with ERP or SAP software.
- Ability to review and verify part numbers and item numbers with strong attention to detail.
- Experience using shipping software and programs for carriers such as Fed Ex and UPS.
- Understanding of inventory control practices, including cycle counting and stock management.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced warehouse environment while maintaining accuracy.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure correct parts handling, documentation, and shipment.
- Willingness and availability to work weekend shifts with two days off during the week.
- Ability to train on a daytime schedule initially and then transition to assigned shift hours.
Skills & Qualifications
- Logistics exp strongly preferred.
- Previous experience with aviation companies such as major aircraft manufacturers or operators is ideal.
- Experience with aircraft parts and traceability documents, including 8130 forms or similar documentation, is a plus.
- Previous parts experience in either aviation or automotive environments.
- Previous forklift experience is a plus and required for higher-level material handler pay.
- Understanding of SAP or similar ERP software, including basic navigation and transaction processing.
- Hazmat training or experience working with hazardous materials in a warehouse or logistics setting.
- Experience working in a 24/7 operational environment supporting time-critical logistics, such as AOG support.
- Comfort using dual-screen computer setups for managing multiple systems and portals.
- Ability to adapt to different shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) and work effectively as part of a large team.
