Job DescriptionThe Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services Systems is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Leadership is required in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, and effective problem‑solving is essential to respond to changing patient needs.
Responsibilities- Use the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
- Provide patient/family education and act as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
- Participate in the preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
- Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care.
- Attend daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
- Project a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
- Utilize the patient’s communication board to keep patients and families informed of name, date, goals, staff, procedures, and tests for the day.
- Comply with NMHS behavioral standards.
- Maintain competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
- Attend annual review and unit-specific requirements within the department.
- Perform required continuing education hours online and in classroom settings.
- Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
- Be licensed by the board of Nursing for the state.
- Education – Associate’s Degree in Registered Nursing. Completion of RN orientation and acceptance of the unit specific checklist are required.
- Licenses and Certifications – RN state licensure and/or compact state licensure;
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR);
Additional certifications:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum. - Work Experience – Relevant nursing experience in an emergency department setting.

- Maintain department and unit-specific continuing education requirements.
- Possess effective communication and teaching skills.
- Have general knowledge of regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments.
- Anticipate resources needed for patient care.
- Assimilate data and report appropriately.
- Orient new employees to the unit and report progress to the charge nurse or nurse manager.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with physicians, ancillary personnel, nurses, patients, families, and visitors.
- Show effective interpersonal skills toward all customers and coworkers in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
Applicants must be able to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods, lift or carry up to 50 lbs frequently, push or pull frequently, climb occasionally, balance occasionally, stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally, reach overhead occasionally, grasp frequently, speak constantly, hear constantly, perform repetitive motions constantly, and coordinate eye, hand, and foot frequently.
