DescriptionThe Quality Control (QC) Lead is responsible for overseeing daily laboratory responsibilities which includes sampling, testing and reporting results to ensure that all food products meet company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
ScheduleSchedule will be 5 days/week;
Afternoon/Night hours; fill in for Lab Techs as needed
- Follow and comply with applicable good manufacturing, safety and quality control practices.
- Maintain proper documentation in all record keeping formats.
- Oversee the work of laboratory personnel performing routine testing including planned laboratory work, evaluating performance and handling any procedural or technical problems that may occur.
- Keep the laboratory running efficiently by enforcing quality control programs, preparing technical reports on lab activity and designing work schedules for personnel.
- Learn new laboratory procedures and techniques and introduce them to their team.
- Responsible for communicating lab performance and product results to Quality team.
- Fill in and do daily lab work when a lab tech takes a vacation day, calls in or are backlogged.
- Oversee all special lab sample requirements.
- Backup QA specialist in their absence.
- Maintain lab inventory. Place supply orders weekly.
- Complete all babcock testing.
- Complete calibrations:
Run Foss calibration sets. Calibrate plant thermometers. Pull and run quarter ABB-quant machine calibrations. - Ensure all work instructions are up to date.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt effectively within a continually changing and demanding environment.
- Basic understanding of machine operations and troubleshooting ability.
- Must be able to demonstrate an ability and willingness to communicate effectively in English, in order to maintain high levels of safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures and company guidelines in order to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Ability to interact with employees and management throughout the plant in a disposition exhibiting a cordial and supportive attitude.
- Flexibility to work different shifts, including weekends or overtime as required.
- College degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Previous leadership experience desired.
- Minimum of 1 year in quality control.
- Previous food manufacturing environment experience desired.
- Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills, with the ability to train and motivate teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and quality management systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
