Assistant School Nutrition Manager

The Assistant School Nutrition Manager supports the School Nutrition Coordinator in the overall operation of the School Nutrition Program and works collaboratively with the School Nutrition Manager to support daily cafeteria operations. This is a hands-on position that combines food service responsibilities with operational and administrative support. The Assistant School Nutrition Manager may work across school nutrition locations and assume additional leadership responsibilities as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Support the School Nutrition Coordinator with the daily operation and administration of the School Nutrition Program.
• Work collaboratively with the School Nutrition Manager and school nutrition staff to ensure efficient meal service.
• Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to approved menus, recipes, and USDA requirements.
• Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, production records, meal counts, and other required documentation.
• Support food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and health department requirements.
• Assist with point-of-sale operations, cash handling, and meal service records.
• Help train and provide guidance to school nutrition staff.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, presentation, and waste.
• Provide excellent customer service and help create a welcoming, student-centered cafeteria environment.
• Support either school nutrition location based on program and staffing needs.
• Assume operational leadership when assigned by the School Nutrition Coordinator, including during the absence of the School Nutrition Manager.
• Assist with special events, catering, and other school nutrition activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the School Nutrition Coordinator or Superintendent.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous food service experience required.
• School nutrition or institutional food service experience is preferred.
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and use basic computer and point-of-sale systems.
• Serv Safe Certification or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe.
• Ability to complete required USDA School Nutrition training.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand for extended periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull; safely operate commercial kitchen equipment; and work in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated by the School Nutrition Coordinator in accordance with West Point Public Schools procedures. The Assistant School Nutrition Manager is expected to demonstrate the WPPS values of Relationships, Innovation, Student-Centered Decision Making, and Excellence (RISE) while helping provide nutritious meals and exceptional service to our students.
