STATUS: Part -Time, Non-Exempt
HOURS: M – F, 8 AM - 12 PM (some flexibility with schedule may be possible)
HIRING RANGE*: $22.80/hr – $27.37/hr
FULL PAY RANGE : $22.80/hr – $31.93/hr
* Starting wage will be within Hiring Range

The City of West Point is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to help support the enforcement of City ordinances with a focus on public safety, health, welfare, and quality of life for residents. This position oversees the daily operation of code enforcement, responds to complaints, conducts inspections, documents violations, works with residents and property owners to encourage voluntary compliance, and provides education and high-quality service to the public while ensuring City codes are applied consistently and professionally.
DUTIESESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as the City’s Code Enforcement Officer to ensure compliance with the City’s ordinances, including health, nuisance, property maintenance, and other applicable code requirements.
- Patrols neighborhoods and conducts inspections to identify potential code violations.
- Investigates and responds to citizen complaints, dispatched calls, and observed violations.
- Prepares and issues notices of violation, correction notices, citations, and other enforcement documents
- Works with residents to encourage voluntary compliance and assist with reasonable plans to correct violations.
- Communicates with complainants regarding the City’s process and course of action in addressing concerns
- Maintains accurate records, case files, photographs, correspondence, and enforcement history.
- Prepares cases for further enforcement action when necessary, including coordination with the City Attorney
- Periodically reviews City codes and recommends updates or modifications
- Coordinates with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, Animal Control, and other agencies as needed.
- Attends Community Development Department meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED AND
- Three (3) + years’ related experience
- Preferred:
Code Enforcement / Law Enforcement experience - Positive work attitude and excellent customer service skills, with ability to remain respectful and professional in all interactions
- Knowledge of basic enforcement principles and processes.
- Ability to use sound judgment and discretion, and communicate clearly and professionally
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.
