It’s 6:30 a.m. on a highway job. You meet foremen at the tailgate, open with a focused toolbox talk, and make sure every crew understands the day’s hazards and controls. By mid-morning you’re walking the work zones, verifying traffic control, inspecting excavations, and checking permits. An observation triggers a quick coaching moment, followed by an update to the site-specific safety plan (SSSP).
After lunch, you finalize an incident review, compile training documentation, and brief project leadership on corrective actions. Before you leave, you log your audits, schedule the next training rotation, and plan tomorrow’s site visits.
What you’ll ownLead field monitoring to ensure OSHA and company policies are followed at active jobsites
Plan and conduct recurring safety inspections, audits, and incident/near-miss investigations
Deliver engaging training sessions and toolbox talks for crews and supervisors
Create, refine, and maintain site-specific safety plans (SSSPs) in partnership with project teams
Keep meticulous safety records, reports, and documentation
Partner with operations to identify hazards proactively and implement controls
What you bring5+ years in construction safety; heavy civil experience strongly preferred
Deep familiarity with OSHA standards and construction safety best practices
Relevant credentials such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or CHST are a plus Clear, confident communication and the ability to influence in the field
Willingness to travel to multiple project locations within the region
