Job DescriptionThe Vice Principal will perform administrative tasks which promote an exemplary educational program through a demonstrated drive toward a school improvement goal that fosters student achievement, with an emphasis on personal self‑actualization, the development of people and teams, and the nurturing of collegial relationships.
Responsibilities- Assisting the Principal and teachers in curriculum planning.
- Assisting and counseling teachers on classroom methods, techniques, and other related problems.
- Arranging and assisting teachers with assembly programs and schedules.
- Briefing and assisting new substitutes.
- Assisting the Principal with student programming and organization, and aiding in the admission and assignment of new pupils.
- Classroom supervision and the submission of written reports on teachers when requested by the Principal.
- Assisting in the handling of discipline problems.
- Assisting in guidance and counseling of pupils.
- Supervising hall traffic.
- Supervising school ground activities.
- Supervising the cafeteria.
- Supervising fire drills.
- Bus supervision.
- Supervising and planning for field trips.
- Authorizing dismissals of pupils upon parent requests.
- Supervising the checking, requisitioning, and distribution of supplies and materials necessary for the proper upkeep of the school.
- Supervising accurate record keeping.
- Assisting the Principal with parent‑school public relations.
- Maintaining supervision and care of the school building and pupils during the Principal’s absence or while overseeing other areas under his jurisdiction.
- Responsibility for all day‑time activities and related evening school activities as designated by the Principal.
- Performing tasks assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or the Principal. This shall not change the working conditions of the position; if they do change, the job specifications will be rewritten.
- Master’s degree with emphasis in curriculum, leadership, and administration.
- Massachusetts DESE certificate in Principal/Assistant Principal 5‑8.
- Demonstrated successful experience in public school administration.
- Knowledge of district philosophy and practice.
- Documented training and skill in evaluating and assessing teacher performance and in clinical supervision.
- Skill in human relations, communications, leadership, and organizational theory.
- Experience with or knowledge of site‑based management.
- Skill in promoting multicultural awareness and commitment.
Salary: Per Unit B contract, salary range: $101,488 – $124,446
