1:1 Special Education Paraprofessional - CLEAR Program

West Springfield High School

The 1:1 Paraprofessional in the CLEAR (Comprehensive Learning, Engagement, Access, and Readiness Comprehensive Learning Environment and Autism Resources) Program provides individualized instructional, behavioral, communication, and personal care support to a student with significant intellectual, developmental, physical, and/or multiple disabilities. Working under the supervision of the special education teacher and related service providers, the paraprofessional implements the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), promotes independence, ensures student safety, and supports meaningful participation in academic, functional, and social learning experiences throughout the school day.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct one-to-one support to an assigned student throughout the school day in accordance with the student's IEP and individualized programming.
  • Assist the student in accessing academic instruction, communication activities, functional life skills, and community-based learning opportunities.
  • Support the implementation of instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology as directed by the classroom teacher and related service providers.
  • Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, hygiene, feeding, dressing, positioning, transfers, and mobility, while maintaining the student's dignity and privacy.
  • Implement behavior support plans and use positive behavior support strategies to promote appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
  • Reinforce communication systems, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, visual supports, and other individualized communication methods.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and other relevant observations as directed, communicating concerns promptly to the supervising teacher.
  • Support the student's participation in inclusive classroom experiences, school activities, and community-based instruction when appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, nurses, administrators, and families to provide consistent support.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment while ensuring student health and safety at all times.
  • Participate in required professional development, team meetings, and training related to the student's needs and district initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or building administrator.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or completion of 48 college credits, or a passing score on the Work Keys Assessment. Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and patience for working with students with significant special needs.
  • Experience working with students with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities is preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
Work Schedule

Full Time: 30 hours per week, includes bus duty

Salary Range

Per Unit D

Contract:

$18.67/hr - $23.96/hr
