JOB SUMMARYThe Optical Engineering Assistant position supports the Optical Engineering team by assisting with fiber laser simulation, modeling, testing, literature review, and evaluations activities. The intent of this position is to support higher‑power 2 µm TFL development by helping to develop and refine simulation modules using RP Photonics software, reviewing relevant technical papers, and comparing simulation results with experimental test data.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Developing and refining fiber laser simulation models using RP Photonics software for higher‑power 2 µm TFL designs.
- Reviewing relevant technical papers, application notes, and published studies to support simulation assumptions, test planning, and data interpretation.
- Comparing simulation results with laboratory test data to improve model accuracy and practical design guidance.
- Supporting analysis and evaluation of laser cavities, fibers, combiners, and other fiber‑based components, including performance, stability, and efficiency trends.
- Supporting documentation, data organization, test‑record keeping, and reporting of simulation, literature review, and experimental results.
- Hands‑on experience through coursework, lab work, or projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Highly organized, with an ability to efficiently handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent judgment, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Graduate or undergraduate in Optics, Photonics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
- Strong interest or coursework in laser physics, fiber optics, and optical waveguide theory.
- Prior experience with fiber laser simulation, RP Photonics software, literature review.
- Prior experience with hands‑on laser testing.
- Knowledge of mechanical & electrical assemblies.
- Must be capable of working in front of a computer for long periods of time.
- Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Good close‑up vision and steady hands to manipulate small components.
