- Evaluate the overall manufacturability of CNC-machined components.
- Develop a practical manufacturing strategy for each quoted part.
- Determine the machines, tooling, setups, operations, and outside services required to manufacture a part.
- Estimate setup time, machining time, programming time, inspection requirements, material needs, and outside-processing costs.
- Identify tight tolerances, difficult features, special specifications, and potential manufacturing risks before a quotation is submitted.
- Research unfamiliar materials, specifications, processes, coatings, heat treatments, and customer requirements.
- Communicate with customer engineers, purchasing representatives, suppliers, and outside processors when technical clarification is required.

- Ability to determine how a machined part should be manufactured.
- Ability to develop realistic setup, machining, and production-time estimates.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable asking technical questions and communicating directly with engineers and customers.
- Organized and capable of managing multiple RFQs and priorities.
- Able to work collaboratively with machinists, programmers, inspectors, estimators, and management.
- Interested in learning the complete operation and growing into a position with broader responsibility.
